Amendment 3
Why I’m voting “Yes” on Amendment 3, and plead with you to do the same
In 2024, voters in Missouri passed a ballot measure to enshrine abortion as a constitutional right in this state. Since that vote, the abortion industry has gained much ground in our state. According to the Guttmacher Institute, in 2025 alone 3,600 abortions were performed in Missouri.https://states.guttmacher.org/policies/missouri/abortion-statistics
On November 3, 2026 Missouri Voters will have an opportunity to overturn the 2024 decision above and return protections for the unborn to our state. With several thousand lives being at stake each year, Amendment 3 may be the most consequential piece of legislation that Missouri Christians have voted on in our lifetime.
I want to explain to you why I am voting “yes” on this amendment, and plead with you to do the same.

What does Amendment 3 actually say?
The full text of Amendment 3 can be found here: https://documents.house.mo.gov/billtracking/bills251/hlrbillspdf/2454H.05T.pdf
I have provided a summary of its contents below. Amendment 3:
I have provided a summary of its contents below. Amendment 3:
- Limits abortion access to cases of medical emergency, fetal anomaly, rape, or incest.
- Limits abortion access in the cases of rape or incest to twelve weeks of gestational age of the unborn child.
- Limits the use of public funds expended for abortions.
- Provides additional protections for women by strengthening consent language.
- Outlaws fetal organ harvesting after an abortion.
- Protects a woman’s ability to receive health care in the cases of miscarriages, ectopic pregnancies, and other medical emergencies.
- Makes illegal gender transition surgeries and cross-sex hormone therapy upon minors.
What will a "yes" vote accomplish?
If passed, several implications include:
- 98% of abortions in Missouri will be outlawed.
- Thousands of lives will be saved each year.
- Children will be protected from harmful, sinful gender transitions surgeries and treatment.
- Abortions in the cases of incest and rape will still be permitted up to 12 weeks.
What will a "no" vote accomplish?
If failed, several implications include:
- Missouri citizens will have enormous access to abortion procedures.
- Thousands of babies will be murdered each year.
- Minors will be at risk of irreversible transgender harm.
- Women will be at higher risk of unsafe abortion access.
Why is this an essential issue for the Church?
There are several reasons that all Christians should care passionately for this amendment.
1. God cares deeply for all human life
A follower of Jesus must value what God values. And God has made it clear from the beginning of time that He deeply values and cares for human life. When God created humanity, Genesis tells us that He made us in His “image and likeness.” This image-bearing nature is what makes every human being equally valuable and worthy in the eyes of God. Because we are created in His image, every human is divinely and eternally valuable.
2. God teaches that life and personhood begin at conception
While most (pro-abortion and pro-life camps alike) concede that life beings at conception (See NIH study), God teaches that individual personhood and value also begins here.
Take for instance Jeremiah 1:5 when God says these words:
5 “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
See also Psalm 139:13-14:
13 For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Do you see it? God knows and values each human life before he even knits them together in the womb! At conception life sparks. And at the spark of life God assigns personhood, value, and worth that rooted in His image and likeness.

3. God hates murder
Because of the divine value He places on all human life, God hates the taking of life. Most classically, the command to not murder is found in the 10 commandments.
Exodus 20:13 states:
“You shall not murder”
God hates hands that shed innocent blood (Prov. 6:16-17), and defends the sanctity of life on the basis of the Imago Dei when He requires capital punishment for murder in Genesis 9:6.
All throughout His revealed scriptures, God declares that He hates the taking of innocent life. Abortion is nothing less than this.

4. The Church cares about what is important to God
To bear the name of Christ means to live for the things of Christ. Christians should unapologetically champion for the unborn because Jesus deeply cares about the most vulnerable.
In Conclusion
As we approach November 3, let us unapologetically fight for the sanctity of all human life. Let us pray unceasingly, persuade convincingly, and practice our right to shape our society by voting.
But let’s not stop fighting on November 4. Regardless of which way the vote goes, we still have much to do. Let us be leaders in our world by how we care for all life, especially the most vulnerable.
Will you vote “yes” with me this November 3?
Will you plead with others to do the same?
